AEBA's objective is to ensure the participation and consultation of Basketball Agents in the governance of professional basketball. AEBA looks forward to productive communication with all relevant stakeholders to optimize the role and regulation of basketball agents.
Agents play an integral role in the careers of professional basketball players. They aim to advance their clients’ professional basketball careers while safeguarding their best interests vis-à-vis teams, event organizers, and the overall governing body in basketball.
In light of the crucial role agents play in professional basketball, concerns have arisen regarding how they are regulated. Despite their essential role and regulation by FIBA, they have, until now, had a limited voice in the scope and content of their regulation.
The re-installation of AEBA is critical as it will bring together all relevant stakeholders to jointly act on substantial reforms in basketball, as announced by FIBA in its policy initiatives.
FIBA has fostered dialogue with stakeholders in professional basketball in the past. However, FIBA’s plan to ensure that clubs can no longer pay on behalf of players came in effect without proper consultation. At the core of every decision that impacts the free profession of basketball agents, there must be proper consultation by means of a structured dialogue. Therefore, it is fundamentally necessary that basketball agents are involved in this dialogue. This is also in the interest of FIBA itself and other relevant stakeholders.
With the creation of AEBA, agents aim to be included without reservation in the reform of FIBA regulations, especially those pertaining specifically to agents' practices. AEBA aims to fulfill this role in a friendly manner and with a perspective of mutual respect and fairness.
